The museum joins five 13th–14th-century merchant mansions on Carrer de Montcada. Rather than famous Cubist canvases, it is strong on the teenage and young Picasso: studies, portraits and his Barcelona years. Walk from the meticulous academy pieces through the Blue Period to the room where the old Picasso reworked Velázquez's Las Meninas dozens of times, and you watch one painter change in order. Stone courtyards with outdoor stairs break up the rooms.
