From Plaça de Catalunya a pedestrian strip runs downhill to the port under plane trees. Halfway down, an iron arch with a stained-glass sign marks the Boqueria. Fruit cups and fresh juice line the entrance; further in you find hams hanging from the rafters and counter bars grilling prawns and razor clams to order. Cross the street on the way out and you are in Plaça Reial, where palm trees surround lamp posts designed by a young Gaudí.
