The temple sits in forest on the slope of Mt Batukaru, cool and damp compared with the coast. Moss-covered walls and tall trees frame its tiered meru towers. It honours the mountain deity watching over western Bali, so you meet more worshippers than tour buses. A small shrine floating on a pond in the courtyard is the favourite photo. The inner sanctum is for worshippers only.
