It's the needle you can see from anywhere in the city: 328 metres, with the main observation deck at 186. Up there it clicks why Auckland calls itself a city of volcanoes: green cones pop up between the suburbs, and Rangitoto sits out in the gulf like an upturned plate. Parts of the floor are glass, so cars crawl beneath your shoes, and with luck someone on the SkyJump drops past the window screaming.
