The oracle of Apollo, which the ancient Greeks believed sat at the centre of the world, is stacked in terraces on a slope beneath the cliffs of Mount Parnassus. Follow the Sacred Way as it zigzags up past the Athenian Treasury, the Temple of Apollo, the theatre and finally the stadium, and every time you turn round there's a valley of olive groves running to the sea. Below the road, the round Tholos in the sanctuary of Athena Pronaia has just three columns standing, and it's the picture everyone leaves with. Don't skip the bronze Charioteer in the museum.
