The gilded dome of laurel leaves earned the building its nickname, the Golden Cabbage. Klimt and his fellow rebels built it in 1898 as a place to show art outside the academy's rules. Downstairs, Klimt's Beethoven Frieze runs along three walls, a painted reading of the Ninth Symphony. Contemporary shows change in the galleries above.
