This is the hall the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert is broadcast from every 1 January. Gilded columns, golden caryatids and a painted ceiling surround a shoebox hall, so the moment you sit down it looks exactly like the TV. Most travellers see the frequent evening Mozart and Strauss concerts, with ushers in period costume.
