The American collector Peggy Guggenheim lived here for almost thirty years, and the house became the museum. Picasso, Kandinsky, Magritte, Dalí and Jackson Pollock hang in rooms the size of a living room, so you're close to everything. On the canal terrace stands a horse and rider with arms flung wide, and in a corner of the garden Peggy is buried alongside her dogs. After days of gilded churches, it's a breath of air.
