Whistler Village, about two hours north of Vancouver on Highway 99, the Sea-to-Sky

Half the point is the drive. Highway 99 climbs along the cliffs with Howe Sound's fjord on your left, and at Squamish you can ride the Sea to Sky Gondola above the water or stop at 335-metre Shannon Falls. Whistler Village is the car-free alpine resort built up for the 2010 Winter Olympics, with the Olympic rings and pedestrian streets of shops. Winter means one of North America's biggest ski areas; summer belongs to the 4.4 km Peak 2 Peak Gondola between the two mountains and the bike park.
