In the Great Hall, behind glass walls nearly 15 metres high, Northwest Coast First Nations totem poles stand like a forest, with sea and mountains beyond the glass to suggest the villages they came from. Bill Reid's yellow-cedar carving 'The Raven and the First Men', humans crawling out of a clamshell, has a round room to itself. In the visible storage galleries, tens of thousands of objects from around the world sit in glass-topped drawers you can pull open.
