Address
Top of Zaisan hill, Khan-Uul District, about 3.5 km due south of Sükhbaatar Square

At the top, a ring of concrete wraps around you, its inner face covered in a continuous tile mosaic: Soviet troops backing Mongolia's 1921 independence, the 1939 battle of Khalkhin Gol, the defeat of Nazi Germany, Mongolia's first cosmonaut. The Soviet–Mongolian friendship memorial went up in 1971 and reopened on 26 January 2025 after a renovation that began in August 2024. Step outside the ring and the Tuul River, new apartment blocks, the downtown towers and the hills beyond all fit in one frame. A T-34 tank memorial sits at the foot of the hill.
