A lone singer stands nearly motionless, humming a deep drone, and somehow a whistling overtone floats on top of it at the same time: khöömii, Mongolian throat singing. Then the horsehead fiddle gallops like hooves, skull-masked tsam dancers spin across the stage, and a contortionist folds herself in half to gasps from the seats. The ensemble has been at it since 1989 and packs the whole range of Mongolian performing arts into about an hour.
