The glass conservatory, which dates from 1910, sits in the middle of the park. Step through the door and freezing air turns into wet tropical heat. Palms touch the glass roof, and there are separate rooms for cacti and for orchids and bromeliads. Entry is free, so it works well as a winter afternoon thaw. The surrounding area is rough, so visit before dark.
