A stark white stone building by architect Fumihiko Maki sits in the middle of a park. Step inside and the central courtyard has a thin sheet of water that mirrors the sky. The galleries hold miniature manuscripts, old Qurans, ceramics and astronomical instruments, gold lettering glinting under low light. It's far from downtown, which is exactly why it feels so calm.
