The moment you climb the steps, the office towers drop away and a tunnel of red torii takes over. The gates filter the light, and street noise goes oddly quiet. At the top sits a shrine in Nagatacho, the district of Japanese politics. The June Sanno Festival parade sets off from this hill. On weekdays you will see office workers slipping in at lunch to clap twice and head back.
