A bag check on the ground floor, a dedicated lift, and you're on the 45th floor, 202 m up, without a ticket or booking. The south windows look past the Shinjuku towers to Tokyo Tower and Skytree in the distance, and the west side catches Mt Fuji on clear days. There's a public piano in the middle of the South Observatory, so with luck your night view comes with a soundtrack. After dark the building's east wall turns into a screen for the 'TOKYO Night & Light' projection show every 30 minutes; catch it from the plaza on your way out and that's your evening sorted.
