Taipei's first official tourist night market is a single street with the stalls down the middle: walk in one side to the far end and come back down the other. Right by the west gate, the gilded roofs of Songshan Ciyou Temple glow, and in front of them the pepper-bun stall slaps dough onto the walls of a clay drum oven. The buns come out crackly, packed with peppery pork and spring onion. Add herbal pork-rib soup, oyster vermicelli and sweet-potato balls and you're full before you notice.
