The Lin family, a leading clan of central Taiwan, built this Qing-era mansion. Tiled roofs step back in layers around courtyards, with ponds, pavilions and a stage for traditional opera inside the same walls. The deeper you walk through the courtyards, the quieter it gets. The grounds are large; a guided tour can fill two hours.
