A stack of fluted white stone blocks closing off the end of Century Avenue: this is the Shanghai Museum's big new Pudong home, opened in 2024. The bronze galleries steal the show, with three-thousand-year-old ritual cauldrons and wine vessels lit like sculpture in the half-dark. Then come ceramics, calligraphy, jade, and a Jiangnan gallery on the life and crafts of the Yangtze delta. You won't get through it in a day, so pick three rooms and go deep. Weekday mornings right after opening are quietest.
