A 165-metre concrete chimney stands on the south Huangpu riverbank. The power plant's main building went up in 1985, served as the Pavilion of the Future at Expo 2010, and in 2012 became China's first state-run contemporary art museum. Inside, white gallery boxes sit within a turbine hall the size of a cathedral, its steel trusses and crane rails left in place. There's no permanent display, just big rotating shows and the Shanghai Biennale. Finish on the rooftop terrace in the river breeze.
