On Isla de la Cartuja across the Guadalquivir, inside the former monastery

This 15th-century monastery sits on the island across the river, and Columbus is said to have leaned on the monks here while planning his voyages. In the 19th century a ceramics factory moved in, and its tall bottle kilns still stand. Today it houses the Andalusian Centre of Contemporary Art (CAAC), so modern work hangs in old chapels and cloisters. The gardens alone are worth the walk.
