Through the Lion's Gate the rooms run on and on, every wall carved in plaster as fine as lace. Pedro I had it built in the 14th century by craftsmen from Granada and Toledo, so Arabic script and Castilian coats of arms share the same walls. At its heart, the Courtyard of the Maidens has a long pool with sunken gardens on either side, and the arches sit reflected in the water. Beyond the palace come gardens as big as the building itself: orange trees, fountains and peacocks wandering about. The Dorne scenes in Game of Thrones were shot here.
