Around Bukchon-ro 11-gil, Jongno-gu

Stand on the slope of Bukchon-ro 11-gil and the black tiled roofs step down the hill one after another until they meet the downtown towers and Namsan. Most of these hanok are people's homes, which is why Jongno District made this lane a 'red zone': tourists may only enter between 10am and 5pm, and since March 2025 breaking the rule can earn you a fine. Take your photos, then slip off into Gyedong-gil or the side lanes of Gahoe-dong, where small museums and craft studios are much quieter.
