Stand at the Susukino crossing and the bearded Nikka Whisky man looks down from a sign that covers a whole building wall. Around that crossing, ramen alleys, lamb-grill joints, izakaya and bars pack several blocks, and most Sapporo evenings end up here. Just north, the covered Tanukikoji arcade mixes drugstores, a Don Quijote and old family shops, handy on a wet day. Later at night the red-light side gets more obvious; just walk past the touts.
