First opened in 1875, gutted by fire after the 1906 earthquake, and rebuilt on the same spot in 1909. Its signature is the Garden Court, the old carriage courtyard now roofed in glass, where breakfast and afternoon tea are served under crystal chandeliers. The Pied Piper bar off the lobby is named for the big Maxfield Parrish mural on its wall. Montgomery station is on the same block, which makes airport runs easy.
