The permanent show, Making of a Nation, walks you through a thousand years in order. Viking swords and jewellery, carved wood from medieval churches and the pots and tools of turf-roofed farms follow one another. English labels are good enough that you do not need a guide. If you want Icelandic history in one stop, this is the best one in town.
