- Address
- The whole walled complex on Hradčany hill; the cathedral stands in the Third Courtyard
Forget the idea of a single keep: the whole hill is the castle. Pass through a couple of gates into the Third Courtyard and the black Gothic flank of St Vitus rises higher than you can take in without craning your neck. Inside, the Mucha-designed window throws colour across the floor in the afternoon and the silver tomb of St John of Nepomuk glints in the gloom. One basic ticket covers the cathedral's paid section, the star-vaulted Vladislav Hall in the Old Royal Palace, the red-fronted Basilica of St George and Golden Lane. The courtyards and lanes are free, so you can see a lot without a ticket at all.
