Rooms of the old Carrancas Palace hold nineteenth-century sculpture and painting, with the marble "O Desterrado" by Soares dos Reis himself as the headline piece. It opened in 1833 as Portugal's first national museum, so ceramics, goldwork and period furniture sit under the same roof. Afternoon light through the garden windows suits the sculpture best.
