This two-storey iron-framed market opened in 1914 and reopened in 2022 after years of restoration, so it is bright and tidy inside. The ground floor is fruit, veg, fish and meat; the gallery upstairs is ringed with small eateries and shops selling wine and tinned fish. A typical visit is a few pieces of seasonal fruit, such as flat peaches, plus a glass of vinho verde or a few slices of ham. It is also an easy one-stop shop for sardine tins and cork souvenirs.
