The boat swings in between the cliffs of Phi Phi Le and suddenly you're inside a ring of sheer limestone, with the white sand from The Beach at the far end. Boats drop you at a jetty on the back of the island and you walk a few minutes along a boardwalk to the sand. Wading is the limit: go deeper or sit down in the water and a ranger's whistle goes off. The trade-off is watching packs of baby blacktip sharks cruise the shallows a few metres from your toes. Tours usually tack on snorkelling at Pileh Lagoon, Viking Cave, Monkey Beach and lunch on Phi Phi Don.
