The spire and roof fell in the 2019 fire, and the cathedral reopened in December 2024. Visitors keep remarking that the cleaned stone columns and vaults are far brighter than before. The north rose window survived the fire with its 13th-century glass. The route inside is one-way, so you just follow the flow, passing people at prayer. The bell towers need a separate ticket and a climb, and from among the gargoyles you look down on the Île de la Cité and the Seine.
