Say Okinawan souvenir and the purple beni-imo tart comes to mind; this is the shop that made it famous. It began in Yomitan in 1986: a layer of Okinawan purple-sweet-potato paste piled on a tart, with no preservatives or colouring. The Kokusai-dori Matsuo store runs 9:00 to 22:00, so you can pick one up on a late walk. Single pieces are sold, handy for a taste test, and the second floor has a gallery cafe for meals and sweets.
