Step onto the ground floor and there are neon-blue parrotfish, striped groupers and huge spiny lobsters laid out on ice. Pick one, pay for it, and a restaurant upstairs turns it into sashimi, tempura or soup. This is mochiage. The market reopened in a new building in 2023, so it's cleaner and calmer than the old one, though the butcher's counter with whole pig faces (chiraga) still draws a crowd of cameras.
