You're walking down an ordinary residential street when five onion domes suddenly appear. The cathedral was built by the imperial family in the early 1900s for the Russian aristocrats who wintered in Nice: pink brick, grey marble and domes tiled in green and gold that look slightly unreal under a Riviera sky. Inside it's all gilded icon screen and the smell of candles. It's still a working church, so visits are quiet, and photography inside is not allowed.
