The 1929 Art Deco building on the corner of 34th Street and Eighth Avenue with the red 'NEW YORKER' sign on top. It has over 1,000 rooms and now trades under the Lotte Hotels name. Penn Station and Moynihan Train Hall are right there, which helps on airport-train or Amtrak days. The building's age shows in small, worn rooms, but the prices are less scary than most of central Manhattan. Nikola Tesla famously spent his last years here.
