Royal Exhibition Building

1880 dome, World Heritage listed

Hours
Interior by guided tour (usually 2pm) when no event is on; gardens always open
Address
9 Nicholson St, in Carlton Gardens

Built for the 1880 International Exhibition, it became Australia's first building on the UNESCO World Heritage list. From the gardens, the huge dome and long facade rise over the lawns. The interior is open only when no event is on, so most people go in on a guided tour. Standing under the dome, the painted ceiling and arches take over the view.
