White marble crosses run in rows across the lawn with no end in sight. About 17,000 US and Allied war dead from the Pacific campaign rest here. Stone maps in the memorial trace the battle routes, and the visitor center shows a 17-minute film. The grounds are so quiet that voices drop on their own.
