Opened in 2018, this was the first bridge between islands in the Maldives. It runs 1.39 km in a gentle curve over a channel more than 50 m deep, linking Malé with the airport island of Hulhulé and on to Hulhumalé. China paid for it, so it started life as the China–Maldives Friendship Bridge. There are separate motorbike and pedestrian lanes beside the car lanes, so you can walk across and look back at Malé's skyline from the water.
