When the dhonis tie up at the quay out front, fresh skipjack and yellowfin tuna get laid out in rows on the tiled floor. Vendors gut them in a few strokes with long knives, water and blood run across the floor, and the smell is strong. Across the road the local market is piled with coconuts, bananas, betel leaves, smoked and dried fish and breadfruit chips. Rays often gather in the shallows by the quay, waiting for the scraps.
