This is the birthplace and home of Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu, who drove the Portuguese out of the Maldives in the 16th century. A low wooden compound with carved pillars, a garden and a well. A staff member walks you through rooms and relics. The island is so quiet that you end up sitting out front longer than planned. Dress modestly; this is a national hero's house.
