Around Ocean Front Walk at Windward Avenue; the canal district is a 10-minute-plus walk southeast

Ocean Front Walk is lined with tattoo parlours, souvenir stalls and street performers; at Muscle Beach the bodybuilders lift outdoors, and next door the concrete skate park is full of airborne boarders. Every wall is graffiti, so photos are everywhere. Head ten minutes inland and it suddenly goes quiet: the Venice Canals, little waterways lined with garden houses and arched footbridges. Further in, Abbot Kinney Boulevard is all boutiques and cafes, a good place to end with a coffee.
