It is 5.8km one way from the Yeongsil rest area to Witseoreum, about two and a half hours. After the forest the trail climbs onto a ridge lined with the Yeongsil rock pillars, and the sky opens all at once. You never reach the crater, yet you see most of what the upper mountain looks like. It is shorter than Seongpanak and pays off sooner, so many people choose it for a first Hallasan hike. The Witseoreum shelter sells cup ramen.
