A hilltop café said to be a favourite of the 19th-century French writer Pierre Loti. The cable car climbs for about five minutes over an old hillside cemetery, and at the top the Golden Horn curves away towards the Old City in one sweep. Ordering çay or Turkish coffee on the terrace and playing with the cats is all there is to it, and that simplicity is why people come back. Many package tours include it, and many independent travellers pair it with Balat just below.
