Address
A 10-minute climb from the north end of the Galata Bridge; cafés ring the little square around it

A 14th-century Genoese stone tower, now a state-run museum and lookout. Lift and stairs take you to a narrow balcony that rings the top, and one lap gives you the Old City mosques across the Golden Horn, the Bosphorus and the Asian shore. The catch is the €30 price and the queue, so visitors are split between people who go up and people who photograph it from below and watch from a nearby rooftop café. If you do go up, enter an hour before sunset and stay for dusk and the lights to get your money's worth.
