Man Mo Temple

東華三院文武廟

A Taoist temple hung with smouldering incense coils

Address
124–130 Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan

Built in the 1840s, the temple honours a god of literature and a god of war. Step inside and dozens of giant coiled incense cones hang from the ceiling, burning slowly, with daylight cutting through the smoke in stripes. Red altars, gilded carving and incense left by people praying for exam results or promotions make it feel like a different century from the antique shops outside on Hollywood Road. Entry is free.
