Thanh Ha village on the Thu Bon, Hoi An Tay ward (formerly Thanh Ha)

A riverside village that has fired tiles, bricks and pots for Hoi An's houses since the 16th century. These days the output is mostly decorative, but the shaping is still done the old way, by hand on foot-driven wheels with no moulds. In the workshops an elderly potter will kick the wheel while you work the clay, and you leave with a lopsided cup or whistle as a souvenir. It's close to the old town but sees far fewer visitors.
