The classic Hoi An merchant house: narrow and deep, shop at the front, river access at the back. The dark timber frame mixes Japanese and Chinese joinery, with a ceiling curved like a crab shell and poetry couplets inlaid in mother-of-pearl. The family still lives here, so you only see the front rooms, but someone usually pours you tea and tells the house's story. Marks on the wall show how high past floods reached, which says a lot about life on the Thu Bon.
