Boats leave My Tho's tourist wharf for the river islands (such as Thoi Son) and the Ben Tre side. Since the 2025 provincial merger My Tho is in Dong Thap Province and Ben Tre in Vinh Long

The highlight is crossing the wide brown lower Mekong by motorboat, then switching to a small sampan on one of the islands. A boatwoman in a conical hat rows you down narrow canals roofed over with water-palm fronds. In between there are stops at a coconut-candy workshop, a honey-tea farm and a tropical-fruit orchard, often with a southern folk-music performance while you snack. You spend more time sitting in boats and vans than walking, so it works with older parents too.
