A guild temple founded in the late 18th century by Cantonese settlers for Thien Hau (Mazu), goddess of the sea. Huge coils of spiral incense hang from the roof over the courtyard, smouldering for days while sunlight slants down through the smoke. Look up at the roof ridges: long ceramic tableaux of old Chinese village life run along them. Pair it with nearby Binh Tay Market for a loop of Cholon, a very different Saigon from District 1.
