Address
3-1-51 Sumiyoshi, Hakata Ward, about 10 minutes on foot from Hakata Station

Ten minutes on foot from Hakata Station, and the city noise drops away. The main hall uses the ancient Sumiyoshi-zukuri style, and the shrine is counted among Japan's three great Sumiyoshi shrines. Carp drift through the Tenryu pond by the west gate, with a tiny shrine on an islet. Deeper inside stands the Noh theatre, a wooden stage that still hosts Noh and Kyogen. Entry is free, so it slots easily between shopping stops.
